Mandelic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid with a larger molecular size, which makes it a gentler-feeling option for surface exfoliation. It removes the top layer of dead skin to refine the look of texture, helping the complexion appear smoother, brighter and more even.
Many people find mandelic acid feels gentler than a glycolic acid tonic, which makes it a common starting point for surface exfoliation or for skin that looks easily irritated. Both work on the surface. Introduce either gradually and see how your skin responds.
Start two to three times a week in the evening and build up as your skin adjusts. Over-use can leave skin looking dry or feeling sensitive. Follow with a hydrating product and moisturiser, and apply sunscreen every morning while using any exfoliating product.
This formula is designed for the face. For the body, a dedicated product from the body range is formulated for the larger, often less sensitive skin there. Using each product on the area it was made for gives a more comfortable result than swapping between them.
